The holiday countdown has begun! The annual
Magnificent Mile Lights Festival is Friday and Saturday, Nov. 22-23. As Chicago’s official kickoff to the holiday season, you might say it’s iconic.
Here at The Talbott, we’ve come up with a new holiday tradition that celebrates two other Chicago icons—the Italian beef sandwich and Malort.
Our Italian Beef Juice Challenge ($10) is an only-in-Chicago experience: a shot of Malort followed by a cup of warm bone broth and a giardiniera chaser. Come and get it outside the hotel all weekend during the fest. If you’re not a Malort fan, not to worry. We’ll have to-go cups of bone broth for you to enjoy along with the light show.
Craving an actual Italian beef? Our French Dip sandwich at
20 East is a fine rendition, stuffed with prime rib au jus, smoked Gouda and giardiniera. Here are three other favorites to add to your holiday-eating bucket list:
Mr. Beef on Orleans
Soak up the nostalgia along with the unapologetically messy sandwich at this River North spot.
Portillo’s
There’s a reason why this local chain is always busy: It knows its beef (and hot dogs and burgers, too).
Al’s #1 Italian Beef
“#1” isn’t overstating it at this old-school stand in the Little Italy neighborhood. It’s been open since 1938.
