Just three blocks from Hotel Kabuki, music buffs can find one of the meccas of American music, The Fillmore Auditorium. In a recent article in the Los Angeles Times, the Fillmore was described as “San Francisco’s cradle of psychedelia that continues to rock.” This designation comes from its fame in the 1960s as a hub for counterculture, welcoming legendary names such as The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, Steve Miller Band, The Doors, and Pink Floyd. Jazz, blues, and soul stars also took the stage at the Fillmore during this era, such as B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Miles Davis, and Lenny Bruce.
Thankfully, little has changed at The Fillmore since that time – the vibe is inimitable, apples are still handed out to guests as they exit (it’s a thing!) and music still reigns supreme at the historic venue. To experience The Fillmore for yourself, check out the calendar of upcoming performances.
