The Pacific Ocean is more than a beach. It’s magic.
“As a lifelong surfer, I already know how much surfing clears my mind and heals me,” says San Francisco-based photographer Rob Brodman, who traveled to Santa Cruz to document veterans surfing as part of the week-long Operation Surf, in partnership with the Santa Cruz Dream Inn.
“When the newbies got into the waves, the benefits that I take for granted—I can see now—are a lifesaver. I have long believed the energy of the waves that travel across the oceans are absorbed into the body… That’s evident watching the soldiers’ joy at returning to the surf the next day.”
