In Honolulu, there is but one man who is the King of Surf. Learn about his life.
Hawaiian Duke Kahanamoku put surfing on the map. The three-time Olympic gold medalist and one-time Honolulu Sheriff popularized the ancient sport in the ’20s and ’30s. The man who embodied the Aloha spirit is memorialized throughout Hawaii, but a special exhibit at Oahu’s Bishop Museum lays out his story in a more curatorial way. Even his ukulele is on display, which he strummed in true, laidback island style. Catch it through November 30.
