Time to Shop

Although the Stanford Shopping Center’s much-touted security robot has been temporarily retired—long story short, the would-be Wall-e wasn’t quite as nimble as a Roomba—there’s still a lot going on at the Palo Alto end of Sand Hill Road. Along with a slew of stores and restaurants opening up (Anthropologie, Lululemon, True Food Kitchen, Allsaints, Vineyard Vines, Tender Greens, Everything But Water, Jenni Kayne, and a whole new Bloomingdale’s building), more than a year’s worth of renovations on the shopping center’s public areas are nearing an end, just in time for its 60th birthday. Look for new and improved fountains, patios, planters (lavender, lavender, lavender!), and outdoor fireplaces—because, as HBO keeps telling us, winter is coming. (Or at least that cool, rainy season that gives Californians an excuse to shop for scarves and boots. Good thing one of those new stores is The North Face.)
