We wish we could tell you where the insanely popular new immersive play The Speakeasy is playing, but then we’d have to…no, we wouldn’t have to kill you. But still, it’s a secret, and we wouldn’t spill the beans, even if we had them to spill. What we can tell you is that it’s somewhere in North Beach, and that the Prohibition-era plot unfolds around you in an ersatz, but very authentic, nightclub, complete with casino, cabaret, and dressing rooms…some 9,000 square feet of atmosphere and intrigue.
You are asked to observe only—don’t interact with the actors unless you’re invited to—and try to blend into your surroundings as much as possible. You don’t have to go so far as renting a flapper’s dress or Oxford bags, but at least trade the jeans and the flip flops for cocktail attire. Because—did we mention?—there is a fully operational bar, offering such era-appropriate drinks as the Cleopatra and the Vieux Carré.
