Sacramento’s Hunger Games

This year’s California State Fair broke attendance records, even without this archery competition.

Back in the day, these dapper dudes ruled the California State Fair, a 17-day event that’s now held annually in Sacramento. Sadly, the archery competition—and the Sac Archery Club—is no longer. It’s worth noting, however, that the winner in the 1928 competition was a Sactown resident who shot an arrow at a distance of 120 feet. Competitions have come and gone in the 160 years that the fair has been showcasing the state’s ag life.
