One of the many things Katrina deprived this city of was a beer of its own: The nearly century-old Dixie brewery in Mid-City still hasn’t reopened—though the brand still exists, the ale’s made elsewhere. In 2008, though, a starry-eyed Navy vet and Dixie’s former brewmaster opened NOLA Brewing Company on Tchoupitoulas Street, heralding a fresh start to Big Easy craft beer. Now Second Line and Urban South, plus a litter of brewpubs and nanobreweries, have joined the party. But lets all raise a glass to NOLA, who got the music started.
