Holidays for Everyone

What’s making us happy today

The song of the Scottish. There are few things more riveting than the sound of a bagpipe. Scottish clansmen come out to show their skills during the annual Scottish Christmas Walk in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. Here, tartan is the new black. Also on the agenda are tours of historic homes and noteworthy scotch (the whisky this time). The walk is held on December 6th, followed by the Holiday Boat Parade of Lights on the Potomac.

Bubbie’s in the kitchen. At San Francisco’sWise Sons Jewish Delicatessen, the pastrami is generally the menu darling. But when the season’s right, their Hanukkah fare is the must-try. Latke toppings include chopped liver and smoked salmon, and sufganiyot jelly doughnuts are also occasionally available. A mother would be so proud, if you just tried one. Wise Sons has locations in the Contemporary Jewish Museum (no admission necessary), at the Ferry Building, and along the Mission District’s 24th Street corridor.
