Game Day Eats from The Bay Area

We all know the Super Bowl is as much about the food as it is the game–so in celebration of the big event hitting the Bay Area in the next couple of weeks, we pulled together some ideas for what to serve and enjoy on game day, inspired by our local hotels and restaurants! You’ll find everything from fresh oysters to craft beer to whet your appetite for the big game.

Inspired by the colorful city oasis that San Francisco’s Hotel del Sol, shake up tasty tropical-themed cocktails with a side of super fresh, super colorful fruit.

General Manager, Ron is a major foodie, and his favorite Super Bowl tradition is not so much a tradition as it is an every day pastime! He recommends using the big day as a chance to explore new dishes, restaurants, and drinks.

If you’re in the mood for something a bit more sophisticated, serve up the classics – oysters and whiskey. Inspired by the Waterfront Hotel’s nautical style, we recommend gulping down a few oysters from Jack’s Oyster Bar in Jack London Square, or hipster hideout Hopscotch in uptown Oakland. Top off with a beautifully-aged whisky.

Keep it simple and classy with hummus, pita and a glass of red wine, inspired by the Middle-Eastern fusion cuisine at Hotel Carlton’s Saha restaurant,

Swank will be kicking back on the couch to watch the game with a selection of great local beers, like the Sea Farmer IPA from Berkeley’s Fieldwork Brewing Company. It is a delicious, bold, and refreshing IPA brewed with Amarillo and Centennial hops and then finished with fresh grapefruit peels and sea salt.

Swank’s bartender, Alex, recommends having a variety of local beers on hand for guests who fall somewhere on the lighter side of the beer spectrum as well: it’s always great to offer a pilsner or lager along with your more intense IPAs. Also fun to consider: try to find a beer from both of the competing team’s home state!

Everyone loves a good deviled egg… But Lure + Till at The Epiphany in Palo Alto elevates the classic party snack with Chef Kelly’s addition of chive, shallot, mustard, and aioli for a fresh, herbaceous, and tangy take on the traditional.

Lure + Till’s skilled bartender, Peter, suggests serving up a round of Brass Tacks, his favorite drink to fix at the bar: with whiskey, Averna, Orgeat and honey–it’s a crowd pleaser and a great way to start the game.
