New Orleans is a fried chicken haven. Just ask the masses that make regular pilgrimages to legends like Dooky Chase’s and Willie Mae’s Scotch House. The city is an appropriate fit, then, for the Fried Chicken Festival presented by Raising Cane’s Chicken Tenders. Held at Woldenberg Park, the two-day event (September 23 and 24) features a line-up of bird purveyors from Gus’s Fried Chicken in Memphis to Boxcar Betty’s in Charleston, SC, to local favorites including Ma Momma’s House of Cornbread and the confectionery Sucré. Artists like Big Sam’s Funky Nation and jazzy Naughty Professor will take to the stage, which can be seen up close, with Belvedere cocktail in hand, from private viewing areas in the Moët Chicken and Champagne VIP lounge. Unwind here until it’s time to break for glimpses of the demo kitchen and the fried chicken tenders eating contest. Have little ones in tow? Then hightail it to the Kids’ Coop for face painting and karate demos.
