After opening outposts in Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, China, Thailand, SoCal, and Seattle, the cult Taiwanese xiao long bao chain Din Tai Fung has finally come to the Bay Area. Just how cultish is it? Within days of its opening in May, reservations were being offered for $80 on Craigslist. That is, until the restaurant started requiring that the ID of the diner match the name on the reservation. Our tip: Eat at the bar, which is saved for walk-ins.
