This Alexandria bar uses chocolate as a main ingredient.
Count on Eartha Kitt to keep you warm. At least the Kitt that is poured at Artfully Chocolate in Alexandria, Virginia. The seductively hot beverage is made with a semi-sweet chocolate with toffee syrup, and topped with whipped cream and toffee bits. For something more classic, tap into a classic diva like Audrey Hepburn, which uses dark, European-style hot chocolate.
The combos are endlessly creative, all of them a nod to the women of the big and small screens: Liz Taylor (infused with lavender), Joan Crawford (a shot of espresso), Ginger Rogers (ground ginger and wasabi), and The Lucy (chipotle and cinnamon). After all, Lucille Ball was a hot, fiery redhead. During Oscar season, the shop sells seven-and-a-half-inch statuettes in Belgian chocolate.
Artfully Chocolate owner, Eric Nelson, is also an artist and teaches two classes monthly at the shop. Learn mosaics or painting alongside a wine and chocolate pairing. Or, you can opt for a pairing class (no art) or chocolate tasting (no art, no wine). Located near King Street Metro stop.
