Wouldn’t you rather do your holiday shopping with an easy conscience? Two new (or new to Chicago) stores both tout their socially and environmentally responsible goods. The first, Mod + Ethico, in the West Loop, carries clothing and accessories that are both modern and ethical (hence the shop’s name): We’re putting their David Bowie tee (blast you, 2016!) and Wildflower phone cases on our list. The second, Brilliant Earth, sells conflict-free diamonds sourced from mines that follow eco-friendly guidelines and don’t use child labor.
And if supporting the arts is important to you, don’t forget about the Museum of Contemporary Art’s store: from the “secular saints” candles (meant to invoke the aid of such dear departeds as John Lennon, Frida Kahlo, Charles Darwin, and Virginia Woolf) to an anodized aluminum rolling pin that will keep one’s pie dough properly chilled to the Humunga Chomp dog ball—Rex will be the talk of the off-leash park.
