“Art Should Be Everywhere” is the philosophy of Daylighted, a San Francisco company founded in 2014 with the goal merging the traditional art world with modern technology.
“Daylighted wants to bring art everywhere,” says co-founder Elisabeth Mouchy. “Instead of having to visit a gallery or a museum to discover new local or international artists, we want people to encounter and enjoy art in their daily lives. Daylighted also creates a great opportunity for emerging artists to broaden their audience.”
Currently, four Joie de Vivre locations in the San Francisco Bay Area (the Phoenix Hotel, Chambers eat + drink, Galleria Park Hotel and Waterfront Hotel) have Daylighted’s SmArtGallery on display. These “digital canvases” offer a rotating, customizable exhibition of artwork on a large screen.
Daylighted is a passionate supporter of the arts and has partnerships with more than 300 emerging and mid-career creatives, creating a library of more than 10,000 works. Participating hotels and venues can work with Daylighted’s staff curator to create a unique themed gallery and visitors can support the artists by purchasing pieces directly from the digital galleries.
To strengthen their community connections, Daylighted has also partnered with San Francisco’s First Thursday Art Walk events since 2015. Held monthly at Chambers eat + drink and the Phoenix Hotel, the events are open to the public and combine art, music, and delicious food and cocktails.
The February iteration on Thursday 2/2 will also feature a dance performance by Mission Dance & Performing Arts, a local group from Fremont, Calif.
“Art should be alive. These events are a perfect way to blend art into nightlife and enable discovery, while having a drink or enjoying live music,” says Elisabeth.
First Thursday Afterparty events are complimentary but RSVPs are appreciated.
