Our Artist in Residence, Megan Roy, dreams up creative projects inspired by our hotels. This time, it’s The Hall, opening in South Beach later this year. A 1940s Art Deco building lovingly preserved and updated, The Hall offers a wildly bohemian, break-the-rules vibe and a 5,000-square-foot backyard where guests, local artist types, and live music acts commune under the giant banyan.
As for Megan’s project? This adorable set of mini planters! She says, “I chose cut-out, color-blocked planters because that’s how I imagine South Beach: breezy, vibrant, and delightful in the most unexpected ways. The planter design is a nod to the hotel’s Art Deco roots. And they’re miniature because, well, there’s no reason really! Maybe because there are no rules, just like at The Hall.”
About the artist: Megan Roy is an illustrator, designer, and s’mores enthusiast from New Hampshire currently living in Los Angeles. (And that dashing model up there is her pup, Ruby!) While Megan’s favorite medium is pen on paper, she has spent time working in film and television, photography, and on large-scale installations. She has been decorating the world since 1986. You can see more of her work on Instagram and on her site.
Stay tuned for more hotel-inspired art from Megan!
