The majority of you know who Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is, but do you know that he was born and raised in Chicago? True story. That’s only one of the many fascinating discoveries of Holiday Tour of Drinks, Daleys and Dead Guys.
The historic walking tour ignites the holiday spirit with visits to Chicago landmarks, including the giant Christmas tree in the famous Walnut Room. While roaming the nooks and crannies and bars, the guide tells the true tales of a Daley stocking that was filled with coal, Christmas consumerism, and Holiday ales. The tour conveniently ends across from the Christkindlmarket.
Back to Rudolph. Created by an artist for Chicago-based Montgomery Ward, the red nose wasn’t an immediate hit with the C-suite at the department store. Red nose = boozy reindeer. Eventually, they understood that Rudolph with his nose so bright could easily guide Santa’s snow at night. Should your nose turn red after a couple tipples, you, too, can use the same excuse. After all, it may be a foggy winter night. And, with fellow participants all shouting with glee, you’ll go down in history.
