Monday April 17 – Sasha Masakowski

unspecified

Vanity Fair Magazine recently listed Sasha Masakowski as one of the top jazz musicians in the world and December 2015 issue of Downbeat Magazine named Sasha among the most innovative musicians coming out of New Orleans to date. She has performed 5 years consecutively at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and has toured across the U.S., Asia, Europe and Central America.”

While Sasha still stands as one of the most prominent genre-defying voices on the New Orleans music scene, she recently relocated to Brooklyn, NY, where she continues to earn a reputation as a ingenious improviser, composer and performer. She has performed as a leader at notable NYC festivals and venues such as NY Hot Jazz Festival, Winter Jazz Festival, Blue Note Jazz Club, Brooklyn Bowl, and The Jazz Standard. Sasha currently leads two bands of her own that range from traditional New Orleans jazz (Sidewalk Strutters) to experimental electronic art-pop (Tra$h Magnolia), and is also the co-leader of Hildegard, an electro-rock collaboration between Masakowski and guitarist/ sound-designer Cliff Hines.

“There is a rare musical triple point where talent, vision, and a wicked sense-of-humor meet. Damn few artists ever make it there. I believe that it must be the address of one Sasha Masakowski.” All About Jazz 2015

With roots in Blues, Gospel, R&B, Afrobeat, Funk, and all forms of Soul music, Retrofit seeks to create sound waves to revive the spirits of its audience.
