Green Dreams

Sustainability is at the heart of our business practices. Through our Green Dreams program we seek to educate employees and guests about environmental preservation, reduce waste, conserve natural resources and partner with other environmentally friendly businesses.

The mission of our Green Dreams program is to preserve the environment by adopting sustainable business practices into our everyday operations. 

We educate our staff and guests about our green policies and procedures. Our goals are to reduce waste and toxins, conserve natural resources and partner with local and environmentally friendly businesses. We strive to maintain guest experiences of the highest quality while adhering to strict environmental standards. Our efforts include: 

Recycling and Waste reduction

• Hotel-wide recycling and composting programs
• Use of recycled paper products
• Donation programs (linens, towels, furniture, uniforms, amenities and food) to charitable organizations
• Use of compostable materials 

Energy/Water Conservation

• Regular HVAC maintenance
• Energy Star rated electrical equipment
• Use of renewable energy
• Linen/towel reuse program
• Regular inspection and repair of water leaks
• Water-efficient toilets and faucets 

Pollution Prevention

• Use of nontoxic or less toxic cleaning products, and reduction in use of harmful products (paints, landscaping chemicals and household cleansers)
• Reuse of grease/oil, paint and toner cartridges
• Recycling of electronic equipment, light bulbs and batteries
• Disposal of toxic or hazardous materials through hazardous waste vendors
• Use of organic, fair-trade food
• Encouraging guests and employees to use public transportation

In 2012, Joie de Vivre Hotels diverted an amazing 17,919 lbs. of bar soap and additional amenities from ending up in landfills and collected 9,401 lbs. of bar soap to create 50,139 “new” recycled soap bars to help stop the spread of preventable diseases worldwide.  This immense contribution to the Clean the World Foundation has aided those in need all over the world.

The Clean the World Foundation: 

• Currently partners with 1,634 hotels across North America 
• Operates in 50 states, Washington, D.C, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands and 10 Canadian provinces
• Represents 400,000 hotel rooms in North America
• Maintains recycling operations centers (ROCs) in Orlando, Las Vegas and Toronto
• Diverts more than 1,226 tons (2.4 million lbs.) of hotel waste from local landfills
• Distributes more than 12 million soap bars worldwide
• Donates soaps and hygiene products to more than 55 countries
