Once a month, create a "Rebel for a Day" program
Choose your more offbeat staffers during the first few months to get this program off on the right foot. The only rule of this program is that the rebel is charged with spending the day breaking the rules. The rebel is vested with the responsibility of coming up with at least a dozen radical changes she thinks ought to be implemented at the company.
Let every employee in your department pick a celebration day
At the start of each year, each employee picks a special day that represents something meaningful to them: it could be Passover, Canadian Independence Day, or Elvis Presley's birthday. Employees are responsible for highlighting their day with a special culture – specific lunch, educational literature, or anything else that inspires and educates their fellow employees.
Let them tell you how they'll succeed
In many big companies, the manager instructs the employees on the path they have to take to succeed. There is only one path. Approach this in the exact opposite way. Let your diverse staff dictate the specific path they plan to take. Ask them to finish the sentence, "I am going to succeed because..."
