Joie De Vivre Hospitality Invites All ‘Joys’ to Celebrate the Joy of Life

20th Anniversary Celebration Incorporates Fun, Philanthropy and Growth

San Francisco, August 15, 2007 - After 20 years in the hospitality industry, Joie de Vivre Hospitality (JdV) is commemorating the occasion by incorporating ‘Joy’ into their celebration, literally. Nearly 10,000 California residents named Joy have been invited to participate in an anniversary-related party on Sunday, September 23, 2007, from 3-5pm.

The “Joyfest,” which will be held at one of Joie de Vivre’s hottest hotels, Hotel Vitale, will include cocktails, appetizers and entertainment. The first 25 ‘Joys’ to RSVP will receive a complimentary room at the hotel. In addition to all statewide ‘Joys,’ noteworthy and celebrity Joys have also been invited, such as San Francisco’s Joy Bianci, Joy Behar from NBC’s The View and authors of books that contain the name of ‘Joy’ in their titles.

Further, JdV is also launching an external and internal contest to encourage nominations for a ‘Spirit of Joy.’ The ‘Spirit of Joy’ is someone who is known for creating joy in their community. This person, chosen from nominations outside the company, will be an honorary invitee to the Joy party and will be awarded a $500 donation to be made to their charity of choice. A second individual, a JdV employee, will also be selected and then honored at the 20th Anniversary party, scheduled for Monday, September 24. All nominations can be submitted via the company’s web site, http://www.jdvhotels.com/spiritofjoy.

The idea to throw a party for people named Joy came from the fact that the name of the company, Joie de Vivre, is an elaboration of that name, meaning “Joy of Life.” CEO Chip Conley chose the name after a decision to leave the world of development and asset management to find his own ‘joie de vivre’ at age 26. In 20 years, Conley has grown the company from one San Francisco motel and a difficult-to-pronounce French name into a brand known around the world and competing with the industry’s largest names.

The anniversary party will reflect this success by incorporating brand-related components. Embodying the company’s California-exclusive development plan and expansion, the anniversary party will celebrate everything ‘uniquely California.’ Showing further commitment to the state, there will also be a silent auction from which all proceeds will support CUESA, whose mission is to promote a sustainable food system through the operation of the Ferry Plaza Farmer’s Market and its educational programs. Additionally, each of JdV’s hotels will be participating by hosting celebrations and philanthropic events throughout the remainder of 2007.
