Joie de Vivre Hospitality Looks to Community
Cultural Preservation Warrants Community Collaboration for Auspicious Namesake
San Francisco, September 28, 2006 - On the cusp of starting a dramatic renovation of the Miyako Inn, Joie de Vivre Hospitality (JdV) announced today its intention to engage the community in a critical aspect of the hotel's re-launch efforts: The selection of a new hotel name.
Since taking over the management of the property in May of this year, Joie de Vivre Hospitality has committed to maintaining the strong cultural link to one of America's most vibrant Japantown communities. To reinforce this historical preservation, JdV has already enlisted the support and advice from residents and public supporters for many elements of the renovation and re-launch, and most notably, the hotel's new interior design.
Members of the community are now being asked to propose potential names they consider to have a memorable, relative and even auspicious connection to the hotel. Suggested names will be compiled to form a list from which final 'candidates' will be drawn and the individual who recommends the winning name will receive a grand prize: A parlor suite at the property to be named after the individual (plaque on the door), a free weekend in that remodeled suite with VIP treatment and honoree status at the grand opening of the renovated hotel.
The renovation process for Miyako Inn will begin late Fall with the re-launch set for the spring of 2007. The hotel's new design takes inspiration from contemporary Japanese culture, featuring the bright colors, modern embellishments and art styling found in Japanese anime, manga and street fashion. An optimistic blend of practical comfort and quirky details, the Inn will attract a diverse spectrum of guests. Acknowledging its location as a cornerstone of Japantown and the Fillmore street shopping corridor, the Miyako Inn will be the ultimate destination for those wanting cutting edge style at a great price.
The renaming process for the Miyako Inn will begin Monday, October 2. Neighborhood residents and supporters are invited to enter initial suggestions via JdV's website (www.jdvhospitality.com/miyakoinn) or the hotel's lobby (located at 1800 Sutter Street). The deadline for the preliminary naming process is Monday, October 23. The final name will be announced the week of November 1.
