Galleria Park Celebrates 100th Year with Great Birthday Rate

LANDMARK SF HOTEL GIVES GUESTS ICING ON THE CAKE FOR ITS 100^TH BIRTHDAY:
STAY AT LEAST TWO NIGHTS AND GET THE LAST FOR A STEAL

San Francisco, March 24, 2011 - If the 100-year-old Galleria Park Hotel's walls (which once contained a speakeasy) could talk, they would tell some interesting stories from the last century in the heart of San Francisco. The hotel, which is located downtown between Union Square and the Financial District, is celebrating its centennial by giving a yearlong gift to its guests: travelers who check in for a minimum two-night stay will receive a special deeply discounted room rate for the last night of their stay based on the year they were born (for example, if a guest was born in 1980, the rate for their second night's stay would be $19.80 plus tax).

"This hotel has welcomed guests through major chapters of San Francisco's history, and is without a doubt one of downtown's architectural gems," said Joie de Vivre Regional Managing Director James Lim, who oversees the Galleria Park, Hotel Rex and Hotel Adagio, all located in or near the Union Square shopping district. "Our centennial rate is a fun way to reward past guests and give travelers who haven't stayed with us a chance to experience one of the city's historic hotels in honor of its birthday - and theirs."

The hotel will also be engaging with fans on social media channels including its Facebook page, Twitter (@galleriapark) and Joie de Vivre's blog, with history, guest memories and special giveaways to its fans and followers throughout the year. Guests will also enjoy local wine hours with pours from Northern California wineries. The hotel, one of downtown San Francisco's architectural landmarks, opened its doors in December 1911 and was originally named for General John A. Sutter. In the 1920s, the hotel ran a speakeasy bar in its basement, from which the original tile floor remains.

The 177-room Galleria Park, formerly the Sutter Hotel, emerged from a dramatic renovation in 2007 as a European-style boutique hotel with a plush Art Nouveau-era glamour. The hotel is located between the Financial District and Union Square and has many unique amenities, such as a "secret" rooftop garden with jogging track and complimentary Golden Gate Greeter tours of the city from local volunteers. It's also one of five Joie de Vivre hotels in the city to receive green certification from San Francisco Green Business, known for having some of the most rigorous certification standards in the county (Joie de Vivre has the most green-certified hotels in San Francisco.). Earlier this month, the hotel also announced it would be the first in the city to offer the new iPad 2 for guests. iPad 2's will be available to guests on a first-come, first-served basis for a charge of $14.95 per day and will be pre-loaded with resources for exploring the city.

The centennial rate is based on availability and is not applicable to groups or negotiated rates. Rates start at $129 per night and can be booked by calling the hotel directly and asking for the "Centennial Package" at 1.800.792.9639.
