The Saguaro Palm Springs Featured in the Conde Nast Traveler May 2013 "Hot List" Issue

May 10, 2013 – Palm Springs, California

The Saguaro Palm Springs has been included in Condé Nast Traveler 's 17th  annual May “Hot List” issue - the ultimate insider's guide to the hottest new hotels and spas of the year.  The Saguaro is one of only sixteen hotels chosen from the United States.

After considering more than a thousand properties, Condé Nast Traveler editors traveled anonymously to 57 countries to visit 201 new hotels, evaluating each on a standard set of criteria including service, food, atmosphere and amenities, all part of their mission to find the best new hotels in the world. The 2013 “Hot List” is the largest ever, and, as always, the most highly anticipated issue of the year by readers.

The editors highlighted The Saguaro’s colorful design and reasonable price, including it in a list of 62 hotels under $300 a night. The property, located in the heart of the Coachella Valley, features an expansive pool area, complete with a cabana bar, two whirlpools, a spa, and a bocce ball court. The three-story hotel surrounds a colorful courtyard pool and houses 245 rooms, many of which have scenic mountain views or overlook the lively pool area. Iron Chef and James Beard Award Winner Jose Garces runs The Saguaroʼs restaurants, which include tequila bar El Jefe and wine and tapas spot Tinto.

"We are honored to receive the endorsement of such a fantastic and respected publication as Conde Nast Traveler," said Steve Rachmat, General Manager of The Saguaro Palm Springs. “It’s a testament to the dedication of our entire staff, and we look forward to continuing to offer our guests the best possible accommodations here in Palm Springs.”

The Saguaro Palm Springs is following the success of its sister property, The Saguaro Scottsdale, which was included in last year’s Condé Nast Traveler “Hot List” and was given the coveted cover photo for the 2012 issue.  Joie de Vivre Hotels manages both The Saguaro Scottsdale, which opened November 2011, and The Saguaro Palm Springs, which opened in February 2012. Both hotels are owned and were developed by Sydell Group Ltd, a New York based owner, developer and manager of lifestyle-oriented hotels.

The Saguaro will be hosting a “Hot List” party in honor of the issue on Thursday, May 16, from 5-7pm. Guests are invited to celebrate the award with Sangria and tapas poolside at the hotel, which is the only property named as part of the “Hot List” in the greater Palm Springs area.

The Saguaro Palm Springs, which opened in February 2012, is a 245-room hotel located at the corner of Sunrise and East Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs, CA. Designed to reflect the colorful vibrant spirit of the Southwest, The Saguaro Palm Springs is the second in an expanding collection of Saguaro hotels managed by Joie de Vivre Hotels, following the opening of The Saguaro Scottsdale in November 2011. The bold Southwestern color palette is the work of renowned architects Peter Stamberg and Paul Aferiat, of New York-based Stamberg Aferiat Architecture, who have infused the property with hues that reflect the indigenous flowers of the Colorado Desert. The three-story structure, originally constructed in 1977, features an expansive pool located within a lush center courtyard, and Tinto, an innovative restaurant run by celebrity chef Jose Garces. The Saguaro Palm Springs is the perfect retreat – a thoughtful desert oasis in Coachella Valley where guests can relax with all of the comforts and sophistication of a boutique hotel.

Since its founding in San Francisco in 1987, Joie de Vivre has made curating authentically local and eclectic experiences its signature. Each one of Joie de Vivre's more than 30 hotels is an original concept designed to reflect its location and engage the five senses. Today, the innovative hospitality company manages the largest collection of boutique hotels and resorts in California and is expanding outside the state with hotels in Honolulu, Chicago and Scottsdale, Arizona. Joie de Vivre is a Commune Hotels & Resorts brand.

Stamberg Aferiat Architecture is a New York-based studio with a broad portfolio of schools, museums, galleries, showrooms and private houses. Mixing the crisp steel-framed aesthetic of high American Modernism with color inspired by Matisse and Hockney, Peter Stamberg and Paul Aferiat have carved an individualistic niche in contemporary American design. They have long felt that the disappearance of color is a great loss to the built environment, with color bringing emotional resonance to people’s lives. For this reason, Stamberg Aferiat have brought the colors of native wildflowers to The Saguaro and designed the hotel around the color and light of the surrounding landscape, making the space, inside and out, a joyful place to be.
