Clean the World
Clean the World is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing millions of deaths caused by acute respiratory infection and diarrheal disease, the two biggest killers of children under the age of five. To this end, Clean the World collects and recycles soap and shampoo discarded by hotels. Since its founding in 2009, Clean the World has collected and distributed over 550 tons (1.1 million pounds) of soap, shampoo and other amenities to more than 40 countries, including Haiti, Mexico, India, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mali, Mongolia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Albania and Armenia.
In the past year, our properties have contributed:
- 10,210 pounds (54,453 3-ounce bars) of soap
- 6,751 pounds of shampoos, body washes and body lotions
thereby diverting a total of 17,000 pounds (8.5 tons) of hotel waste from local landfills.
