On June 3rd, President Obama issued a call for a nationwide conversation on mental health, designed to help Americans learn more about, and take action on, mental health issues. Sacramento is among the first of ten cities across the country to initiate this conversation and will host a discussion on how mental health issues affect the community, including topics related to the mental health of young people. The event will take place on July 20th from 9:30 AM until 3:30 PM at the Sacramento Convention Center and will bring together a broad base of stakeholders including mental health practitioners, those who have direct experience with the mental health issues, and people who have personally struggled with mental health, among others, to facilitate an open and in depth dialogue on mental health. This meeting will lead to the creation of an action plan designed to improve mental health programs and services for families, schools, and communities.
