For airline travelers, alternate airports include:

  • San Francisco International Airport (SFO), approximately 3 1/2 hours north of Ventana Inn
  • San Jose International Airport (SJC), approximately 2 3/4 hours north of Ventana Inn
  • Monterey Peninsula Airport (MRY), approximately 1 hour north of Ventana Inn

From the North

Highway 1 north of Big Sur is currently open with no restrictions. For additional information regarding directions to the resort, contact us at 831.667.2331.

  • Take Hwy 101 south to Hwy 156 in Prunedale
  • Take Hwy 156 west to Hwy 1 in Monterey
  • Follow Hwy 1 south thru Monterey and Carmel
  • Ventana is located 28 miles south of Carmel on the left side of Hwy 1

Or

  • Take Hwy 280 south
  • Get on Hwy 85 south
  • Take Hwy 101 south to Hwy 156 in Prunedale
  • Take Hwy 156 west to Hwy 1 in Monterey
  • Follow Hwy 1 south thru Monterey and Carmel
  • Ventana is located 28 miles south of Carmel on the left side of Hwy 1

Or

Take Hwy 1 south all the way to Big Sur. This takes much, much longer, but is a beautiful drive.

From the South

  • Take Hwy 101 north through Salinas to Hwy 156 in Prunedale
  • Take Hwy 156 west to Hwy 1 in Monterey
  • Follow Hwy 1 south thru Monterey and Carmel
  • Ventana is located 28 miles south of Carmel on the left side of Hwy 1
