  • Hotel Rex is very near to Union Square and 10-minute walk from underground station with direct line to the airport. Just around the corner you can take cable car to Fisherman's Wharf which is quite nice. Most importantly rooms were clean and we were very satisfied with the staff.

  • When we go to an interesting old city, we like to be right in the middle of things and stay at a "neat" place. We got it all here PLUS a free glass of wine in the evenings. This hotel is what San Francisco is all about!

  • I was recommended to this chain of Hotels, and the Rex was the one I chose. This was my first time to San Fran and the staff were very helpful, friendly and very knowledgeable. The complimentary wine at night was fantastic, and Dave the barman had many tips and guides for a solo female traveler.

  • This was a fantastic stay. We were going to spend just two nights and travel on, but ended up staying for four since we liked it so much. The location is perfect and the hotel seems to be a magnet for creative and nice people; in a sense, it's an embodiment of the city itself. The decor is artistic and the place has a very literary appeal.

  • The hotel has a gorgeous little bar/restaurant, styled like an antique library with lots of heavy books and dark wood everywhere. They do a happy hour where your first glass of wine is free and the food is very tasty although we only had a small snack there the first night after our long flight from the UK.

  • Discovered the Rex a few years ago when we got priced out of the Monaco and the Triton. Now, we wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else. The rooms are clean and decorated with flair. The public areas, with a literary salon vibe, are soothing with touches of poetry and whimsy. And the staff is always -- and I mean always -- pleasant and helpful.

  • Wonderful location. Terrific ambiance. Great staff. Everything was perfect. Lovely bar for a drink before heading off to dinner or coming back for a nightcap. We had a short walk to several top notch restaurants and just a block from one of the main cable car routes.

  • The biggest advantage is the location, with only 5 minutes to Union Square (shopping), Hilton (conferences) and Market St. (shopping, restaurants). A lot of tourist attractions are also within walking distance, for further ones you can catch the cable car around the corner.
