• Take Highway 101 North
• Exit Mission Street
• Turn left onto Van Ness Avenue
• Turn right onto Bush Street

From the North (Marin, Napa/Sonoma, San Rafael)

• Take Highway 101 South over the Golden Gate Bridge
• Exit Lombard Street
• Turn right onto Van Ness Avenue
• Turn left onto Bush Street
• Turn right onto Hyde Street
• Turn right onto Sutter Street
• The Hotel Carlton is located on your left.
• Note: There is a $6.00 toll to cross the Golden Gate Bridge.

From the East Bay (Berkeley, Oakland)

• Head southwest on I-80 W toward San Francisco
• Take the Civic Center Exit onto 9th Street
  
• Bear right after Market and 9th Street becomes Larkin Street
  
• Turn right at Bush St
  
• Turn right at Hyde St
  
• Turn right at Sutter St
  
• The Hotel Carlton is located on your left.
  
• Note: There is a $5.00 toll to cross the Bay Bridge to San Francisco.
  
• From SFO/101 South: Take Hwy 101 North, bear left at Hwy 80 split, take Civic Center exit, turn left on 9th Street, bear right after Market as 9th becomes Larkin
  
• Turn right on Bush
  
• Turn right on Hyde
  
• Turn right on Sutter.
  
• The Carlton is on the left side.

From SFO using BART

• Board the SFO to Pittsburgh/Bay Point
• Get off on Powell Street Bart Station
• Walk 1/2 block to corner of Cyril Magnin & Market Street
  
• Board bus line #27 towards Van Ness Avenue
• Get off on Leavenworth & Sutter Street
• Walk West on Sutter for block and a half (hotel is on left side)

From Oakland Airport using BART

• Board the Freemont to Daly City/Millbrae or Dublin/Pleasanton to Daly City/Millbrae
• Get off on Powell Street Bart Station
• Walk 1/2 block to corner of Cyril Magnin & Market Street
  
• Board bus line #27 towards Van Ness Avenue
• Get off on Leavenworth & Sutter Street
• Walk West on Sutter for block and a half (hotel is on left side)

ATTENTION: California Cable Car out of service until Summer 2011

Phase Two of the California Street Cable Car Infrastructure Improvement Project will require a closure of the California Cable Car Line from January 3 until summer 2011.

Construction is scheduled for Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., although night and Sunday work may be necessary.

During the closure of the California Cable Car Line, Muni bus shuttles will provide substitute service daily from 6:30 a.m. until 12:30 a.m
