May 19, 2013 in Oakland, Ca- Tamarindo Antojeria is proud to invite Chef Benedicta Alejo from Michoacan, Mexico as our next guest chef in a series of hands on food labs at Tamarindo. Benedicta is from the indigenous community of San Lorenzo, Uruapan, Mexico. She prepares the traditional food of her ancestors the Purèpecha using natural local ingredients, and techniques passed down from generation to generation. Tamarindo is honored to have Benedicta pay homage to our pre-hispanic, and traditional indigenous cooking technics alongside our Chef owner of Tamarindo Gloria Dominguez.
“The kitchen is the life and spirit of our culture and Benedicta is someone that transcends our ancestral roots through her food.”says Gloria Dominguez. This passed December Benedicta was invited by the Vatican cook for 600 people, and she invited Gloria to join her staff where they represented the indigenous food from the Michoacan, Mexico. On Sunday June 2, 2013 Benedicta alongside Gloria will be cooking with a prix fixe meal consisting of mostly pre-hispanic dishes, like Mole de Conejo (mole cooked with Rabbit.) Mi Sueño Winery who is rooted originally in Michoacan will be pairing their wine.
Tamarindo Antojeria has been open for 8 years in Oakland, Ca. offering Traditional Mexican cuisine. Tamarindo Food Lab is a new addition to bring a new experience to our restaurants then normal service. On Sundays Tamarindo will be offering cooking classes, Mezcal and Tequila tastings and including a special Mexican guest chef series. Tamarindo has luanched it’s chef series in 2012 with Chef Angel Vasquez from Puebla of Intro Restaurant, and Chef Marta Zepeda Trujillo from Chiapas.
