Jazz historian and radio personality Sonny Buxton will interview legendary jazz sax man John Handy. Mr. Handy has spent 64 of his 80 years as a professional musician, making his mark on the jazz scene and working with many musiccal greats around the world. In addition to being a consummate musician, Mr. Handy is a composer, arranger, bandleader and educator who has been inducted into the San Francisco State University Alumni Hall of Fame. There is also a music scholarship in his name at SF State. Like Sonny Buxton, John Handy has a keen memory, a sharp wit and is a wonderful storyteller. You will not want to miss this engaging conversation between two dynamic men sharing insights and memories from John Handy's remarkable career.
Conversations with Sonny will take place in our Media & Education Theater at 1330 Fillmore Street. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
