András Schiff plays Bach and Beethoven
Oct 13 2013
Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall
201 Van Ness Avenue
San Francisco, CA 94102
Following his performance of the Partitas, András Schiff’s second Great Performers recital brings together two monumental works of the keyboard literature: J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations and Beethoven’s Diabelli Variations. Beethoven’s late masterpiece was deeply influenced by Bach’s Goldbergs and contains direct allusions to that iconic work. This rare opportunity to hear two towering masterworks side-by-side, at the hands of one of the music’s most insightful exponents, promises to illuminate the connections between them and reveal their profound emotional depth.
Co-presented by the San Francisco Symphony and San Francisco Performances.
“There is nothing more reliable in the world of classical music today than pianist András Schiff playing Bach." —THE NEW YORK TIMES
