IN HONOR OF TRACEY LURIE-SKLAR
Tracey Lurie-Sklar was a teacher, mother, daughter, sister and community leader. Born in Africa on June 13, 1962, Tracey passed away on November 6, 2008.
The run is in honor of her work with students both in the US and abroad and her spirit.
Building Blocks India
Based in Bangalore, India and provides a proactive pre-school program to give slum children a good foundation in English language, arithmetic, general science, social and practical life skills at an early age of 3½ years through a fun, comprehensive curriculum.
See this 3 minute video to see how your support from last year’s run helped Building Blocks and more about the students you’ll be helping again this year: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPaUMcm4RWI&feature=youtu.be
India School Fund (ISF)
An innovative nonprofit founded to ensure effective delivery of education in poor rural areas of India, starting in a state where 4 million children do not attend school, and where more than 50% of kids who complete primary level still cannot read and count.
ISF creates talent around clusters of schools tied to the local culture and economy. Students will not only acquire basic literacy and life skills but also develop an entrepreneurial mindset early in their development. The objective is to see all children evolve into empowered citizens, entrepreneurs, employees or graduates of higher education, thereby moving forward on the ladder of development.
The run is a 5.7 Km mile out-and-back course from the parking lot of the St. Francis Yacht Club along Crissy Field to the turnaround point at Fort Point. People can run or walk and are not required to go the full distance.
