SUPERMULE (San Francisco)
The finest pickers and singers the Bay Area has to offer have joined forces and formed thier very own supergroup called Supermule. The band raids America's musical pantry to concoct a tasty blend of fresh, rootsy ingredients. Liberal amounts of jazz, bluegrass, classical, and rock are used in varying proportions. One song is a thick, rich gumbo, the next is fluffier than Grandma's buttermilk pancakes. The fruitful collaboration between members belies that old saw about too many cooks in the kitchen. Mixing traditional bluegrass instruments like banjo, guitar, and fiddle with keyboards, drums, and horns, Supermule focuses on those areas where different musical strains intersect. The band continues the spirit of innovation and experimentation to create - as did so many pioneers in American music - a hybrid music that is simultaneously traditional and revolutionary. The band is; Jim Chayka (banjo), Rich Armstrong (trumpet), Alisa Rose (fiddle), Yoseff Tucker (guitar), Zach Sharpe (bass), Michael Carroll (drums). http://www.supermuleband.com/ Listen up: http://www.supermuleband.com/music
JAMES NASH & THE NOMANDS (SF)
James Nash is no stranger to musical diversity. As at home with Charlie Parker and Bill Monroe as he is with Django Reinhardt and Jimi Hendrix, the accomplished guitarist embraces the potential challenges of playing multiple genres with both joy and aplomb. Nash’s broad vocabulary, both as scholar and stylist, has led to a genre-bending approach that has served him well for a decade as a lead guitarist, singer, and songwriter for the eclectic and virtuosic Americana ensemble, The Waybacks. Similarly, they make him a fitting helmsman for both the electric rock 'n soul grooves of The Nomads and the daredevil acoustic escapades of The NashVillains. http://jamesnash.com/
BLIND WILLIES (SF)
Blind Willies is a San Francisco based Americana rock band led by singer-songwriter Alexei Wajchman. The band began at San Francisco’s High School of the Arts as a duo playing covers of American folk songs and Alexei’s originals which he began writing when he was 15. After their professional debut at San Francisco's Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, the band’s first two releases of all original songs, The Unkindness of Ravens(2007) and Everybody's Looking for a Meal(2008), were highly praised. The albums defined their sound and provided them the opportunity to perform extensively at eclectic venues, from New York's Falcon Ridge Folk Festival and San Francisco's Djangofest to Brooklyn's intimate back room at Barbès. They shared stages with punk icon Penelope Houston (Avengers), “Dawg Music” innovator David Grisman, and folk iconoclast Peter Stampfel (Holy Modal Rounders). http://www.blindwillies.net/ Listen up: http://www.blindwillies.net/#!music/c10tw
