Speaker: Dr. Mark Finch, Lead Regional Medical Director, Blue Shield of California
Dr. Mark Finch, a graduate of UCSF Medical School and University of Michigan Medicine Residency, joined Blue Shield of California in May of 2010 as the Lead Regional Medical Director. Dr. Finch and his team of three Regional Medical Directors are responsible for overseeing approximately 200 medical groups in California that are delegated to manage utilization, cost, and quality of healthcare for one million Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) members. Prior to Blue Shield, Dr. Finch was the Senior Medical Director for Medical Services at Brown and Toland Physicians Medical Group in San Francisco, a group of 1200 specialists and primary care physicians. Previously Dr. Finch was at Health Net of California from 1994 to 2006 where he rose to level of Senior Regional Medical Director. Prior to his stint at Health Net, Dr. Finch, who is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases and a Fellow in American College of Physicians, managed his own practice specializing in Infectious Diseases. Dr. Finch has extensive international and public health experience including 2 years with the Center for Disease Control, a month stint as consultant to Pan American Health Organization, and 3 years as a Visiting Scientist in Lima Peru. Dr. Finch has about a dozen publications in European and American Medical journals on infectious diseases and managed care topics. He is married and has four children.
