“Scale, Energy and Travel Architecture; recent work of Luis Vidal Architects”
In his presentation, Luis will present a superfast zoom throughout our known scale (from the universe to the carbon atom), and then take the viewers to a reflection about energy needs and world population. Luis will present his airport terminal projects as case studies of his design philosophy, concluding with a peek at the future of space travel.
Luis Vidal Bio
Luis Vidal studied architecture at Greenwich (UK) and is a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). He specializes in airport design, amongst other building types. Vidal was Project Director of the new terminal for Madrid Barajas Airport -T4 - and Co-author of the new Warsaw International Airport.
A year after founding luis vidal + architects (LVA), his design for the new Zaragoza Airport was shortlisted as finalist for the Mies Van der Rohe 2009 Awards. He is the concept and lead architect of the new Terminal 2a at London Heathrow Airport, scheduled to open in 2014.
LVA has become the first Spanish practice involved in developing a spaceport, being Associate Architects to the engineering and architecture firm HDR for the design of Front Range Spaceport in Denver, Colorado. Luis Vidal is co-designer of Abengoa’s HQ’s offices in Seville, Spain, the first LEED Platinum certificate in Europe. He is also the author of the concept titled “Airport Hospitals”, which applies his responsible designs to improve the experience inside a terminal building in order to reduce patient’s anxiety and promote faster recovery in hospitals.
