a dance concerning itself with history and memory (adciwham) is a joyful ritual for forgetting that discombobulates, rearranges, and releases the past. Beginning from a simple tale of sibling rivalry, the piece spins out of control as balloons fill the stage, and memories cross and mix and mingle together. The dancers careen around the stage, bumping into their own pasts, and one another. It is about the impossibility of holding onto what was. The piece is a collaboration between choreographer Rebecca Pappas, performers Genevieve Carson and Jesse Saler, composer Christopher Danforth, and lighting designer Christopher Kuhl. We have created it together over the course of years, telling our stories to each other, and then jumbling them up until we don't know remember whose is whose. Pappas and Dancers has been showing dance-theater projects around the world since 2003 and is proud to welcome back this powerful group of collaborators. Performer Jesse Saler has toured internationally with Poor Dog Group, of which he is a founding member, and movement artist Genevieve Carson appears regularly in works by Southern California choreographers as well as film and television projects. Composer Christopher Danforth is the recipient of a 2012 McKnight Grant for composition, and lighting designer Christopher Kuhl travels internationally to design works by artists from Ralph Lemon to Samita Sinha.
