The newly renovated Getty Villa modeled after the first-century Roman country house, the Villa dei Papiri in Herculaneum, Italy, is a sight to see. The incredible gardens are designed in open spaces around the villa and feature bronzesculptures, fountains, and lush plantings of trees, herbs, and flowers that were used by the Romans. The reconstruction, which took nearly nine years, has brought the site back to the Villa’s original lush style, with wood, bronze and glass structures. The Villa also houses more than 44,000 Greek, Roman, and Etruscan antiquities and frequently brings new exhibits. Admission to the Villa is free, but tickets must be requested in advance; parking is $7 (cash only).
