- 5 things I love about the San Francisco Bay Area:
- The Flower Mart - I love going down on Friday mornings - I eat breakfast at the Flower Mart Café (698 Brannan 495-7162) and then search through the seas of beautiful flowers.
- CCAC - (1111 8th Street 703-9500) While many people go to SF MOMA, they often overlook California Center for Arts & Crafts (CCAC) built in an old bus station in Potrero Hill. It's where young artists go to learn and practice their craft. There are great shows of emerging artists from all over the country year-round.
- Dean Hutchinson on Sacramento - (3401 Sacramento 922-4228) Some of the best clothes in San Francisco - fabrics from Italy, style like Costume Nationale.
- Olive - (743 Larkin 776-9814) To find real local nightlife, head to Olive where stylish twenty-somethings sip drinks and listen to the latest grooves.
- 826 Valencia - (826 Valencia 642-5905) Best selling author Dave Eggers shop where he sells books hot off the McSweeney's press as well as other doodads like eye patches and loaded dice.
- My favorite local hidden treasure you shouldn't miss:
- The Audium - (1616 Bush, 771-1616) A true San Francisco underground institution - picture Willy Wonka meets Woody Allen's movie "Sleeper"....hundreds of speakers pump out sounds (such as a construction site or a river) in a dark 70's style listening room.
- The Tartine Bakery in the Mission - (600 Guerrero Street, 487-2600) the best bread pudding around.
- My perfect day spent in the San Francisco Bay Area:
- Morning - Go for a walk at Crissy field than walk over to Union Street to shop and get a $20 manicure & pedicure at Head to Toe Beauty Salon (3038 Fillmore, 921-2226). On the way, stop at Curbside Café (2769 Lombard, 921-4442) for great pesto and ricotta omelet.
- Afternoon - Head over to the artist area, Valencia Street, where there are rows of boutiques , art galleries, restaurants, and thrift stores. Eat one of the best burritos on this earth at Pancho Villa Taqueria (3071 16th Street, 864-8840).
- Night - Have dinner at the Strait's Café (3300 Geary Boulevard, 668-1783), tasty Singaporean food in a unique setting - great infused drinks and steamed sea bass wrapped in banana leaf. Then hop over to RoHan (3809 Geary, 221-5095) for drinks and music.
