What do I do to make a buck?:
Pamper the heck out of Silicon Valley with our two Preston Wynne spas in
5 things I love about the San Francisco Bay Area:
1. The drive down Highway One from San Francisco to Santa Cruz during a full moon! 2. Mountain biking Enchanted Loop at Wilder Ranch State Park 3. Dinner at Manresa restaurant (320 Village Lane, Los Gatos, (408) 354-4330) the most divine food and the most stylish front of the house south of the city 4. Sunday morning cafe au lait and fresh-baked muffins in the sand at the Kind Grind (222 E Cliff Drive, Santa Cruz, (831) 476-9136) listening to live jazz and watching the warrior princesses battle it out on the beach volleyball courts. 5. Enjoying Happy Hour, Silicon Valley Style at our spa in Saratoga: leaving my office and heading upstairs for a balneotherapy soak and 90 minutes of warm stone massage.
My favorite local hidden treasure you shouldn't miss:
Soif Wine Bar (105 Walnut Avenue Santa Cruz, (831)423-2020), with its eclectic crowd, sharp, contemporary architecture highlighted by bare grapevines displayed against a wall as dramatically as crucifixes, and attitude-free but wine-smart servers. The creative menu of small plates changes weekly and you can order half glasses of the wines if you're a lightweight and want to sample a different wine with each course. And you can buy the wines at the adjacent shop before you leave!
My perfect day spent in the San Francisco Bay Area:
First we do our penance: a morning run to the Lexington reservoir, a thinly veiled chance to people-watch. Immediately followed by pain au chocolat and cafe au lait at Fleur de Cocoa. (39 N Santa Cruz Ave, Los Gatos, (408) 354-3574) Then we'd check into the Preston Wynne Spa at Hotel Los Gatos (210 E. Main Street (408)-335-1700), hang out in the sauna and catch up on our gossip, have a couple of fabulous body treatments, followed by one of our exotic tropical fruit and flower facials, then repair to the pool terrace (after applying our sunscreen, of course) to sip a little champagne and have brunch! We'd spend the afternoon lounging in our bathrobes, enjoying the sound of rustling palms and splashing fountains.
